I believe that bitcoin would be the great currency option for Asgardia, due to the fact that our citizens reside in several countries, bitcoin would greatly facilitate the business in Asgardia.

How do you know there is going to be need for currency?

I am not sure about Bitcoin itself, it has some flaws, but I like the idea of cryptocurrency as an official one. But choosing the right one will require research from both economical department and mathematical/programmists

I agree with Vhoruk. Having a currency implies having excedents of some kind that citizens can interexchange. Because of its nature, Asgardia will most likely remain a society based in subsistence economy for the better part of its first centuries of life. A small city, in space, cannot allow itself ...

I believe that creating a currency would lead to the creation of a bank as well. BitCoin would be a first alternative, since all Asgardians can buy BitCoins using the currencies of their countries of origin. But for the future of Asgardia, we need to have a currency of our ...

There will be no need for currency in Asgardia. Leave the old ways of thinking behind friend, people of the future who live off planet won't be held back by primitive concepts such as currency. I am really hoping that the first settlement on Mars will be a huge step ...

A blockchain based currency would be an interesting preposition but bitcoin would probably be best avoided.

If we begin making our way into cryptocurrencies, I highly suggest [monero](https://getmonero.org/home). Here is its Stack Exchange page:[https://monero.stackexchange.com/](https://monero.stackexchange.com/). Bitcoin has too many flaws. I wouldn't suggest perpetuating that.

Currently there is no realistic alternative to using a currency as we have to exist and trade on earth....we can debate about what is ideal in decades in the future but here and now we all have to and do use a currency so which one or ones is the ...

I'm sure we can be more civilised than using a currency. We, together, can think of and apply more civil and modern systems.

Just as much of science fiction is increasingly becoming fact ( replicators mobile commincators http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/10-star-trek-technologies2.htm) Star trek economics in a post scarcity society without currency being required (as the main medium of exchange) is likely to be the eventual outcome. It has already been suggested in many Sci Fi novels ...

Dear all, A currency today has a dual problem: If it is limited in amount: it' "value" is high, but it creates inequality, because many have to "fight" for some coins while the lucky get a lot. if at a certain point, it runs out, a financial crisis is created ...

time currency has been around for some time. There are pros and cons as with all currencies . I doubt that it fits global trade and many other use cases but has merit in specific areas. There is also an issue with the devaluation of the value of time which ...

I like the idea of using bitcoin as the currency, though I wish the value would finally stabilize for the sake of conversions. Though I think some form of a resource based economy is ultimately the way to go.

Before we worry about a national currency, I think we should first come up with a banking system that is as tamper proof as can be. We do not want a repeat of what has happened in the US. Greedy selfish folks screwing over the rest of the citizens. If ...
